La Petite Colline / Shan Shan Cafe at 3355 Steeles Ave East is a cafe that serves breakfast sandwiches, baked goods, and handcrafted drinks.
The interior design is pretty, but Shan Shan Cafe is crowded. Showing up without a reservation isn’t totally pointless, but it’s highly recommended, since it’s hard to get seated within 30 minutes, especially on weekends. There were a lot of families and friends there for brunch, and my family and I were there too.
The Egg Sandwiches
Shan Shan Cafe’s standout item is its egg sandwiches. Depending on what you don’t want in the sandwiches, you can slightly customize them. There’s a substantial menu here for sit-down dining, but there’s also a bakery section for take-out.
I ordered the Regular Egg Sandwich, while my cousins ordered the BBQ Ribeye Egg Sandwich, which they said was amazing and worth having again at Shan Shan Cafe.
The Drinks
All of us ordered drinks, including a coffee latte, a matcha latte, and an iced passionfruit soda.
The Pastries
Also, I ordered the raisin buns, which were really tasty, and the cheese bread, which I didn’t like. I don’t think savoury and sweet should ever be mixed. To me, it tastes off.
I ordered the tuna buns, which were so cute because they were shaped like fish, but the tuna inside just wasn’t good. In other words, two fails, but two wins for the egg sandwiches & raisin buns.
Additional Tips
Please book a seat in advance online to avoid waiting! Also, there’s a lot of free parking nearby, which makes it a very convenient place to dine if you own a car, and it’s off the 404 highway.
