Tamagotchi is very back, which feels both delightful and slightly stressful to me personally. This post on where to find Tamagotchi merch in Tokyo is for anyone who remembers begging for one as a kid, only to realize years later that even a digital pet can be a tiny emotional responsibility.

I had a Tamagotchi when I was around eight, back when they were truly everywhere. I remember going to Toys “R” Us with my mom, picking one out, and feeling like I had just been handed a very small egg-shaped life mission.

That is not a small “oh cute, people still like this” kind of comeback. That is people showing up in Toronto, connecting devices, celebrating tiny digital pets, and somehow making the whole thing feel funny, sincere, and very sweet.

I love that detail because it proves Tamagotchi nostalgia is not just living quietly in someone’s childhood drawer. It has become social, collectible, and weirdly heartwarming in a way that makes perfect sense if you have ever felt emotionally attached to a pixelated blob.

Visiting Tamagotchi Factory in Harajuku

One of the stops we made around Harajuku and Shibuya was Tamagotchi Factory, the official Tamagotchi shop inside Tokyu Plaza Harajuku “Harakado”. Tamagotchi Factory is on the third floor of Tokyu Plaza Harajuku “Harakado” in Jingumae, Shibuya-ku.

This is exactly the kind of store I love finding in Japan because it is not only about buying something. It is about walking in, looking around, pointing at tiny objects, and quietly accepting that Japan understands cute merchandise on a level I may never fully recover from.

The giant Tamagotchi photo moment

As soon as you walk in, there is a huge Tamagotchi-style display with an interactive screen. It is basically the perfect photo moment, especially if you grew up with the original version and still feel weirdly attached to those little pixel creatures.

The whole store feels bright, playful, and easy to browse, even if you are not planning to buy anything. I love stores like this because they let you step into a tiny world for a few minutes, which is often half the fun of shopping in Tokyo.

Tamagotchi merch, tiny charms, and cute little extras

The shop had Tamagotchi everything, from candy and small goods to keychains, figures, and accessories. It is capitalism with a tiny bow on it, but also, the bow is cute, so here we are.

One of my favourite parts was the DIY-style section where you could choose a Tamagotchi case and fill it with little charms. I love this kind of idea because it turns a simple souvenir into something personal, which feels very Japan-coded in the best possible way.

There were also nameplate-style accessories and little pieces you could use to customize your item. I did not make one, but spiritually, emotionally, and aesthetically, I absolutely would have.

Finding Tamagotchi merch around Tokyo

Tamagotchi Factory was not the only place where I noticed Tamagotchi merch in Tokyo. I kept seeing claw machines with Tamagotchi plush toys and small collectibles in different arcades, because Tokyo loves a claw machine and I respect the commitment.

I also looked for older-school Tamagotchis while we were browsing vintage and second-hand shops. Some of them were a pretty penny, which made sense, but still made me pause like, okay little egg, I see your resale value.

Is Tamagotchi Factory worth visiting?

If you are a big Tamagotchi fan, yes, Tamagotchi Factory in Harajuku is worth adding to your Tokyo list. It is not necessarily a long stop, but it is fun, nostalgic, easy to visit, and close to so many other Harajuku and Shibuya shops.

I would treat it as a cute browsing stop rather than a full destination, unless you are seriously collecting Tamagotchi items. Go for the photo moment, the limited merch, the DIY accessories, and the pure childhood flashback of seeing Tamagotchi treated like the tiny cultural icon it is.

What to know before visiting Tamagotchi Factory

Tamagotchi Factory is best for people who love nostalgic toys, Japanese character goods, tiny accessories, and stores that feel more like little experiences. It is also a good stop if you are already shopping around Harajuku or Omotesando and want something playful between cafés and clothing stores.

You do not need to buy anything to enjoy it, which is honestly one of my favourite kinds of Tokyo stops. Sometimes the joy is simply walking in, saying “wait, that is so cute” twelve times, and leaving with your inner child fully awake.
