Apart from the occasional trivia night or cosplay panel at a convention, it’s rare to find a true Avatar: The Last Airbender fan event in Toronto. But last April, one such evening appeared—like a secret tunnel leading straight to the heart of fandom joy.

In celebration of the new live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender series on Netflix, Storm Crow Manor hosted an immersive fan experience. Even better? The event was in partnership with Paul Sun-Hyung Lee, aka Uncle Iroh (and yes, Appa from Kim’s Convenience). The moment I saw it, I knew I had to go. I love being around kin—fellow lovers of A:TLA.
Dressed to impress (subtly)
I didn’t go full cosplay this time—though trust, I was tempted. My husband and I, just two weeks into marriage (insert adorable newlywed squeal here), opted for casual fan attire.

He wore an Avatar State shirt. I wore a flowy blue dress printed with the four elements from Black Milk Clothing, paired with my Loungefly Momo bag, a red Uniqlo jacket, and Water Tribe earrings from Etsy. Hidden underneath it all? My beloved A:TLA robe. It deserved a cameo.
Welcome to Storm Crow Manor
Located on College Street, Storm Crow Manor is already a whimsical, nerdy destination. After a short line outside, we were welcomed in with swag bags. Inside mine? A sugar cookie printed with an Avatar image (adorable and delicious). These kinds of details always make a fan event feel extra special.
On this night, it felt like walking into the show’s animated spirit world itself. Red and blue lighting filled the manor, casting moody hues that matched the elements. TVs played the live-action Avatar episodes like it was a sports bar for benders.
Appetizers from the Four Nations
This Avatar: The Last Airbender fan event in Toronto wasn’t just about aesthetics—it came with themed snacks, too. The appetizers floated around like little elemental treats from the world itself.
Some standouts:
- Ember Island egg rolls
- Water Tribe shrimp purse
- Appa’s Thai salad roll
- Fire Nation Komodo chicken skewers (my favourite)
- Mango sago dessert (so good, I recreated it at home all summer)

It was light fare, but very tasty. And with your ticket came one themed drink, which felt fair considering the value of the experience.
Drinks worthy of the Jasmine Dragon
Of course, the custom cocktails brought the fandom to life in flavour. Some fan-favourite drinks included:
- The Jasmine Dragon (I mean, obviously)
- White Lotus
- The Four Nations
Each was carefully curated and named, adding a lovely immersive touch. I always appreciate when fan events go the extra mile with naming and theming.
Cosplayers and connections
No Avatar: The Last Airbender fan event in Toronto would be complete without cosplayers. I saw:
- Yue
- Zuko
- Appa
- Two versions of Katara
- Toph
- The Blue Spirit
- Our friend Richard as Mako (technically Legend of Korra, but still!)

I also spotted the coolest Water Tribe Loungefly bag I’d never seen before. Instantly obsessed.

There was also a raffle tied to Avatar trivia. The prize? A sweet cookie gift set, dice pack, and what I believe was the Avatar RPG game. Tempting.
Meeting Uncle Iroh himself
Yes, we met Paul. THE Paul. Uncle Iroh in the flesh (well, sort of). He was relaxed, kind, and very down-to-earth. I found out he used to attend cons and cosplay before his fame—which honestly makes me like him even more. I don’t know if he still does, but he gets major kudos for staying connected to the fandom.

Why Toronto needs more fan nights like this
Overall, this was one of the most fun nights we’ve had as a couple post-wedding. Between the themed foods, the immersive vibe, the friendly fans, and the presence of Paul Sun-Hyung Lee, it was a total win.

If you ever hear of another Avatar: The Last Airbender fan event in Toronto, go. Seriously. Whether you’re dressed in robes or rocking subtle merch, there’s something magical about being in a space where everyone gets it.
Final thoughts
Toronto has an incredible fandom scene, but these one-night-only gems are what truly breathe life into our community. I’ll keep showing up—robe, bag, earrings, and all.
And maybe next time… I’ll finally cosplay as Suki.
