I went back to the National Bank Open 2024 in Toronto this year and if you’ve been following my blog, you know how much fun I had in 2023, so naturally, I had to return for another round. This time, I attended not just one but two events—bringing along my husband and father-in-law for the ticketed match, and enjoying the free Family Day on Civic Holiday Monday with my brother-in-law and nephew.
Family Day Fun: More Than Just Tennis
One of the highlights this year was the Family Day event. Hosted on the Civic Holiday Monday, it was a day filled with activities catered to families, especially children. The atmosphere was electric, with excited kids participating in tennis clinics, interactive games, and even getting a chance to meet some cool mascot characters from Paw Patrol and Minions. For families, this day is a great activity to do in Toronto—not only do you get to enjoy the matches, but there’s also a ton of fun activities that keep everyone entertained.
Leylah Fernandez and the Tennis Fist
The highlight of my week was definitely the ticketed match on Wednesday, where I got to see the talented Leylah Fernandez in action. Watching her play live was a fun experience, and the energy in the stadium was palpable. One thing that really stood out to me was what I’ve come to call the “Tennis Fist”—that moment when players pump their fists in the air after a great shot or a hard-fought point. It’s such a powerful gesture, a mix of triumph and determination, and seeing it up close adds a whole new layer to the sport.
More Than Just Matches: The National Bank Open Experience
The National Bank Open is more than just a tennis tournament; it’s an experience. Whether you’re a die-hard tennis fan or just someone looking for a fun day out, there’s something for everyone. The venue is buzzing with energy, from the food stalls offering a variety of delicious eats to the sponsor booths with interactive displays and giveaways. The overall vibe is festive, making it the perfect summer outing.
Why I Keep Coming Back
So, why do I keep coming back to the National Bank Open? It’s simple: the combination of world-class tennis, a vibrant atmosphere, and the opportunity to share it all with my loved ones makes it an unforgettable experience. This year, having my husband, father-in-law, brother-in-law, and nephew join me made it even more special. It’s not just about watching tennis; it’s about making memories, enjoying quality time with family, and immersing ourselves in the excitement of the event.
If you’ve never been to the National Bank Open, I highly recommend adding it to your summer plans. Whether you’re going with family, friends, or even on your own, it’s an event that has something for everyone. And who knows? Maybe next year, you’ll find yourself joining the crowd, cheering on your favourite player, and witnessing that iconic “Tennis Fist” in action.
