For my birthday this year, I really wanted cake. Truly. Birthday cakes never seemed necessary to me, and I don’t have a sweet tooth. But, I remember as a child, I always wanted an Avatar: The Last Airbender cake.

Earlier this year, while doom scrolling on TikTok, I found dozens of videos of anime-inspired cakes by @cakejuliacake. Like, seriously, just take a look at her profile. Her anime cakes are on point.
I sent her a mood board, picked a cake flavour (vanilla buttercream with confetti), and organized an event to share this Avatar: The Last Airbender cake.

Overall, I wasn’t expecting the cake to taste as good as it did. It was definitely one of my favourite cakes, mainly because it wasn’t overly sweet. I thought it was the right balance, and everyone else did too.
I also loved the design. This cake incorporates bits of the elements (water, earth, fire, and air). As well as characters like Appa.

For the “Team Avatar” imagery, I used a still from @geneluenyang‘s The Promise series. Despite my love for Avatar: The Last Airbender comics, that one wasn’t my favourite, but @gurihuru‘s art on The Promise made a post-series Team Avatar look amazing.
💬 What do you think of the cake and would you order one for your birthday? If so, what would it be?
