Like me, you saw the Selkie dress on Instagram and knew you had to have it, but you didn’t know what were the best bras to wear with the Selkie dress. Aside from being extremely aesthetically pleasing, it flatters almost every body shape, despite its odd Rocco-esque shape. Those who like Bridgerton, and those who like the princess aesthetic, will want to try this dress on and take an Instagram pic. And, Selkie, you should totally host pop-ups in big cities and allow people to try on their dresses and take photos. Feel free to steal that idea.
If you’ve managed to get to the stage where you’ve purchased the very expensive Selkie dress, tried it on (it fits, woohoo!), but then realized that the bust area is completely sheer (oh no), you’re not alone.
I tried several bras, including pasties, but nothing worked. It’s not my style to wear dresses with low front and back cuts, with sheer fronts.
Here are the best bras to wear with the Selkie dress, so you don’t get nip slips or possibly, straps showing in photos (which I definitely did the first time I wore this dress, and it was for a professional photo shoot, too.)
The good news is that most of the bra options are super affordable. You really don’t need to spend more than $10, so take a look.
#1 The Swimsuit Bandeau ($5-$30)
I’m not saying I’m a genius, but I’m not saying I’m not. You can wear it with a swimsuit bandeau top as long as it’s not too bulky. Why? First off, they come with padding, so you don’t have to worry about that. It’s the right rectangle shape, and it lies flat underneath the dress, making it one of the best bras to wear with the Selkie dress.
The only thing I’d recommend is to avoid bandeau swimsuit tops with buckles or buttons. It’s better to use light colours or something similar to your dress if it’s a light colour. You can wear darker colours if your dress is dark, but I think light colours work too.

#2 Bandeau Bra or Top ($5-30)
Bandeau bras with or without padding are another option. At Ardene, I found some without padding, but I went with a bandeau swim top because it had padding.

#3 The Square Bandeau Spaghetti Tank ($5-30)
Any tank you wear with this dress needs to have a VERY square cut. No excuses. Most Selkie dresses have a square cut, so the tank has to be the same. Furthermore, the straps can’t be thick. They’ll be visible 100% of the time. But spaghetti straps? In this dress, they’re super forgiving, and with puff sleeves, you can actually tuck them behind the sheer puff sleeves, and no one will know.
The only downside is that you’d have to wear nip covers or add padding to the top itself to be fully covered.

#4 Bra Tape or Pasties ($15-$40)
Although I haven’t tried it myself, bra tape might work. You’d have to wrap it like a bandeau. You might be able to use this if you have bra tape. It’s advisable to get a colour that matches your skin tone and use it so it’s invisible when you’re wearing it.
Update: I can confirm pasties do absolutely work, especially the ones that are like a strapless bra!
