Miffy Bakery Arashiyama: the cutest stop near Kyoto’s bamboo forest

If you’re visiting the famous Arashiyama Bamboo Grove in Kyoto, there is one very cute detour you might want to make. The Miffy Bakery Arashiyama is one of those places that feels almost too adorable to skip.

By the time I reached Arashiyama, I was already slowly becoming obsessed with Miffy. Japan has a way of doing character merchandising that somehow makes everything feel charming instead of overwhelming. And seeing Miffy everywhere during the trip only made the obsession grow stronger.

So when I heard there was a Miffy themed bakery, I knew I had to stop.

The storefront alone is worth a visit

The first thing that caught my attention was the storefront. It was decorated with cherry blossom details and a sakura themed Miffy display, which immediately made me stop for photos. If you know me, you know I cannot resist cherry blossoms.

The shop itself blends nicely into the Arashiyama area, which is already full of charming little streets and shops. It feels playful without looking overly touristy.

And yes, Miffy is technically a rabbit character, which somehow makes the baked goods even cuter.

A bakery and a character shop in one

The Miffy Bakery Arashiyama is not just a bakery. It is also a full character merchandise shop.

Inside, you will find a surprising amount of home and kitchen themed Miffy items. There were things like chopstick rests, kitchen towels, oven mitts, calendars, and magnets featuring the baked Miffy design.

They also had tote bags and keychains with the bakery theme, which honestly made perfect souvenirs.

One thing I noticed about Japan’s character stores is that the merchandise often feels very specific to that location. The baked Miffy designs, for example, are something you would probably struggle to find outside the bakery.

Which means yes, I absolutely left with a baked Miffy keychain.

The baked goods themselves

Of course, the real highlight is the bakery section.

They had several different Miffy shaped buns and pastries that were almost too cute to eat. The classic one is a soft bun shaped like Miffy’s face, but there were also other options like cream filled pastries and powdered sugar donuts.

Everything felt freshly made and beautifully presented. Even the pastry cases were arranged in a way that made it feel more like browsing a dessert display than just grabbing a snack.

I ended up trying one of the cream filled pastries, which was simple but satisfying. Honestly though, half the fun is just looking at everything.

Arashiyama is full of character stores

One thing I did not expect about Arashiyama was how many character themed shops there were nearby.

Within walking distance of the bakery you can also find places like the Snoopy Chocolate shop and a Rilakkuma store. It turns the whole area into a slightly whimsical shopping experience.

Between the bamboo forest, the scenic river views, and these playful little shops, Arashiyama ended up becoming one of my favourite places in Kyoto.

Is Miffy Bakery Arashiyama worth visiting?

If you love Miffy, the answer is absolutely yes.

The bakery is small, charming, and full of character themed details that feel very unique to the location. Even if you only stop for a few minutes to grab a pastry or browse the merchandise, it adds a fun little moment to your Arashiyama visit.

And honestly, who doesn’t want to try a Miffy shaped bun at least once?
