I finally made it to Matcha Matcha Lab in Markham after already visiting the original downtown location, so this is officially part two of my Matcha Matcha experience. The Markham café is much more futuristic, and I immediately understood why the brand gets so much attention.

The whole space leans into the “lab” concept, with baristas working in the centre while customers order around them. The branding is strong, memorable, and genuinely fun without feeling overdone.

Ordering at Matcha Matcha Lab
The café was busy, but ordering was simple because everything happens through a QR code or kiosk. I used the QR code, placed my order in a few taps, and our drinks were ready in about five minutes.

There is not much staff interaction since the baristas stay focused on making drinks. It feels efficient and works well if you are happy with a more hands-off café experience.
What I ordered
I kept seeing the matcha cheesecake drink in Google reviews, so of course that became the order. I also added an extra two grams of matcha because I already suspected the cheesecake flavour might overpower it.

That was definitely the right move because I could still taste the matcha underneath the sweetness. If you actually want to taste the tea, I would recommend adding the extra matcha.
The drink is sweet, creamy, and very dessert-forward. I would not order it when I am craving a classic matcha latte, but as a treat, it works.
Seating and laptop friendliness
I ended up getting some work done here before heading to a Studio Ghibli event later that day. The space is fine for a short laptop session, meeting a friend, or stopping in for a drink, although the steady flow of customers keeps it fairly active.

The futuristic design also gives the café its own personality, which I appreciated. It definitely feels more like an experience than a quiet neighbourhood café.
My Matcha Matcha Lab Markham verdict
Overall, I enjoyed Matcha Matcha Lab more than I expected. The space is fun, the ordering system is easy, and the matcha cheesecake drink was good once I boosted the matcha.
Would it be my first choice for a serious matcha latte? Probably not. But for a sweet specialty drink when I am in Markham, I would absolutely go back.
