I’ve never been to Disney—or Florida, for that matter. My only trip outside of Buffalo to the U.S. was in 2019 when I spent three whirlwind days exploring New York City with a friend. This time, I’m heading to Orlando, Florida, with Disney World as a major highlight on the itinerary. Of course, planning my Disney World outfit ideas has been a big part of the excitement.
This trip feels like a dream come true. My husband and I had been debating between a Disney World honeymoon or a tropical getaway. Just a month after shelving the idea, we discovered family members were heading to Orlando, and flights were unbelievably affordable. We booked our tickets, and now it’s actually happening.
Disney nostalgia: a childhood dream
When I was three, I started attending a daycare school that shaped a lot of my early memories. It was a Montessori-based environment where we learned math early, took swimming and music lessons, and had structured routines. But the moments we all loved most were Disney movie days. The sight of that rolling TV cart with the VHS player felt like magic.
I remember the first time I watched The Lion King and Cinderella like it was yesterday. I became utterly obsessed with Mulan (and yes, I even enjoyed the sequel a little). When The Princess and the Frog came out, it was a whole new level of excitement. I already knew the story from a book we often read in elementary school, but the movie’s music stayed with me. Songs like “Almost There” and “Dig a Little Deeper” still inspire me today.
Watching The Princess and the Frog in theatres felt deeply personal. Seeing a princess who looked like me on the big screen was something I’d never experienced before. (And fun fact: my middle name growing up was Tiana, which I eventually changed my first name to Tia.)
Planning the perfect disney world outfit ideas
This trip is more than just a visit to Disney; it’s a chance to embrace nostalgia and live out childhood dreams. Naturally, I want my Disney outfits to match the magic.
Finding Disney-themed clothing in Canada has been tricky since the Disney Store closed and Hot Topic stocks less Disney merch these days. But I’m on a mission to create themed Disney World outfit ideas for each park day:
- Magic Kingdom Day 1: A Princess Tiana outfit.
- Epcot: A Mulan-inspired red and black ensemble.
- Magic Kingdom or Epcot Day 2: A Pixar-themed look (Toy Story or Up).
- Animal Kingdom: A Lion King tribute.
So far, I’ve found some beautiful pieces on BoxLunch, but the prices are steep. I’m holding off on ordering until I can browse stores like Target, Walmart, Marshalls, or Uniqlo in Orlando. A dedicated shopping day before our Disney adventures is officially part of the plan.
Packing my Disney essentials
One staple I’m bringing on this trip is my Loungefly Princess Tiana backpack. I might pair it with my Princess Tiana 100 Years wallet for an extra touch of Disney magic. While I usually reserve this bag for conventions in Toronto, I’m excited to fully embrace the Disney vibe in Orlando.
I’m also looking forward to exploring Orlando International Airport. Picking up a Disney World-themed frame or magnet as a souvenir would be the perfect way to commemorate this magical journey.
Getting ready for the adventure
As I sit here in -14°C weather, I’m counting down the days to Florida’s warmth. To this Canadian, anywhere above 20°C feels like a little slice of paradise. I’m so excited to visit Disney World and share every magical detail with you. Plus, I’ll be sharing all my Disney World outfit ideas along the way.
Stay tuned for all the Disney magic, the outfits, and a recap of the adorable cafes I’ll visit in Orlando. Let the adventure begin!
