Like many of the cafés I feature on my blog, I stumbled across Café x Bica on Instagram. The elegant design of the space immediately caught my eye, and I made it a goal to visit. As soon as I walked in, the friendliest barista greeted me, which set the tone for my entire experience.
Seriously, the warmth and genuine welcome made attending this café a joy. I know I’ll be back for the great customer service alone.
In a lovely exchange, the barista asked how I discovered the café. After sharing my story, he mentioned that a family had traveled all the way from the United States after seeing the café on Instagram. Imagine traveling such a distance!
They, too, had been captivated by the café’s alluring décor and design on Instagram. It’s a testament to the power of social media and just how pretty this café really is.
Atmosphere and Ambiance
I loved the beautiful décor and design. Nestled in the Design Exchange building this café truly feels like a work of art. The interior design is incredible, blending modern elements with a touch of classic elegance—marble tables being a personal favourite.
I also appreciated the thoughtful layout with tables behind the café booth reserved for laptop users. The cozier, more intimate seating is designated for those simply enjoying a coffee break.
While I respect this approach, I do feel that during quieter times there could be more flexibility in seating options.
Menu Highlights
I opted for an iced matcha latte with a twist—a blend of strawberry syrup and vanilla syrup. The presentation was beautiful, with the vibrant green of the matcha swirling delicately with the pink hues of the strawberry.
The flavours were refreshing and unique. Yet, I found myself wishing it was just a touch sweeter to fully satisfy my sweet tooth.
I craved something savoury, so I went for the cheese croissant. It was advertised as flaky—a little too flaky for my taste. Being a notoriously messy eater, I found myself battling a cascade of pastry flakes that went everywhere.
While the croissant had a delicate texture, the cheese filling was disappointingly sparse. Especially when I compare it to my gold standard: Nadege’s cheese croissant, which remains unmatched in Toronto.
Next time, I think I’ll opt for the Spinach Feta croissant. It seems like a less flaky choice and might offer a more satisfying filling.
Overall, I’d say Café x Bica is definitely worth a visit. However, I should note that it’s a very expensive café—a true “treat yourself” spot. If you’re on a budget, this might not be the place for everyday visits. However, for those special moments when you want to indulge, it’s great.
