Are you a matcha enthusiast and want to try a variety of matcha lattes in Toronto? Or maybe you’ve always wanted to try cafes in Toronto with the best matcha lattes but didn’t know where to start.
Matcha has antioxidants; it enhances your mood and concentration, as well as boosts your metabolism. Overall, it’s an excellent alternative to coffee, especially if you’re looking for caffeine that doesn’t make your heart race.
Here are ten cafes in Toronto with the best matcha lattes.
1. Rustle & Still
Rustle & Still is a beautiful cafe filled with plants and wooden decor. It’s a Vietnamese cafe that sells a plethora of drinks, banh mi sandwiches and baked goods. Their matcha latte, sweetened with pandan, tastes excellent.
I love the presentation of their matcha, as well as the balance between sweet and bitter.
If you’re looking to get some studying done in a rustic and earthy looking cafe while drinking matcha, check Rustle & Still out.
2. Best Iced Matcha Lattes at Nutbar
A new favourite of mine for iced matcha lattes is Nutbar. Located in the midtown area of Toronto, Nutbar is a little shack of healthy superfoods and snacks.
Nut milk (a blend of almond, cashew and coconut milk) is the critical ingredient for every latte in this cafe, making the taste super smooth.
My favourite drink is the Super Iced Matcha Latte. It consists of coconut oil, raw honey and steamed nut milk.
3. Himalayan Coffee House
I love Himalayan Coffee House’s latte art. They can do almost every latte art design, from Hello Kitty to Totoro and more. I love this matcha because it’s sweet, and they offer a variety of sizes.
This cafe is very generous with their servings, so if you’re looking for a large cup of matcha for a lengthy work session, then you need to visit Himalayan Coffee House.
4. Soul Coffee
In the Yonge & Finch area of Toronto, Soul Coffee is a popular hangout for their popular Bingsu dish. However, what drew me to Soul Coffee was their matcha latte.
It’s a refreshing flavour. It’s not bitter, and it’s a little too sweet. It tastes like matcha ice cream in a cup, and believe me that’s a treat for your senses.
If you find yourself in the North York area, stop by for a warm or iced cup of matcha with a side of Bingsu.
5. Canephora
Canephora is a cozy cafe on Finch Avenue West in the North York area of Toronto. Their matcha lattes are super sweet so if that’s not your thing, definitely avoid.
I think if you’re trying matcha for the first time, sweetened matcha is better than the traditional (yet delicious) Japanese sencha matcha taste.
6. Rooster Coffee House
Rooster Coffee House’s matcha is the least “bitter” matcha on this list without being sweet. It’s sweetened with a little bit of cane sugar, and lot’s of milk with a little bit of matcha powder.
If you’re don’t like the taste of healthy matcha, you may enjoy a cozy cup of tea from Rooster Coffee House.
7. Hale Coffee
Hale Coffee in Toronto is a place that grinds their coffee beans. Multiple cafes in Toronto use Hale’s coffee beans.
Their expertise in coffee also passes down to their matcha. Their matcha is the real deal. It’s not sweet, and it’s super creamy.
8. Strange Love Coffee
Strange Love Coffee has named their matcha, the “Lover’s Matcha.” I wonder why?
If you’re in the King/Spadina area and want to grab a cup of matcha to go, stop by Strange Love Coffee for their gorgeous coffee cups and caffeine-rich matcha lattes.
9. Forget Me Not Cafe
Forget Me Not cafe is probably the quaintest coffee shop on this list. It has a super homey feel to the place. Their matcha is not outstanding as it tastes very similar to what you can make at home.
However, if you’re looking for homemade-tasting matcha in a comfortable cafe, check out Forget Me Not Cafe.
10. Page One Cafe
Are you close to Ryerson University? Page One is a cafe with lots of room for studying and cozy couches in the back of the cafe. It’s a dimly-lit space that’s ideals for students looking to hunker down during the exam scene.
I wasn’t blown away by their matcha latte, but it still tastes good. Plus, this cafe has a variety of milk options, including almond milk, soy milk and oat milk.
Overall, many cafes in Toronto serve delicious matcha, whether you want traditional Japanese sencha tasting matcha or sweetened matcha. Click here to see a video of the cafes I love in Toronto.
