There’s one thing I can’t stop doing, and that’s watching dramas. Watching foreign dramas with subtitles is one of my favourite ways to release stress. And if you’ve read my top dramas for 2022 list, you already know the TV shows I’m watching this spring that I’m super excited to check out. There are a few American shows here and there, but it’s mostly C-dramas and anime.
Who Rules the World
This brings me to Who Rules the World with Zhao (Rosy) Lusi and Yang Yang. I loved Rosy in Dating in the Kitchen, but the other dramas I’ve seen her in, have not appealed to me. In You Are My Glory, I really liked Yang Yang, but his acting, especially in Love O2O, wasn’t my cup of tea.
While I’ve seen his skills improve over the years, let’s see if he’s improved in Who Rules the World. My favourite thing about this drama is the synopsis promises a lot of banter between the main characters, and if you know me, I love witty banter. I can watch a show or book for hours if there’s entertaining banter between the two main characters. There aren’t too many shows that do that well, and I can’t think of any more than a few that have.
The show airs on Monday, April 17th. There are 8 episodes dropping on the first day, and then 6 a week for 4 weeks, so there’s a lot to watch. I’ll definitely know whether it’s worth watching on Monday, April 17th when the first batch of episodes premiere.
Rewatch Avatar: The Last Airbender
I’m thinking about rewatching Avatar from season two to the end. Totally inspired by the second season of the podcast, Braving the Elements, by Janet Varney (voice of Korra) and Dante Basco (voice of Zuko), who are reviewing and interviewing the Book 2 cast/crew of Avatar: The Last Airbender.
I just finished Season 2, Episode 5 – Avatar Day, the episode before The Blind Bandit, which introduces Toph for the first time.
After watching it dozens of times (I’ve lost count) I’m always curious to see if it’ll feel fresh to me and if I’ll discover new things I missed in the 50+ rewatches since 2008.
Bubble
Bubble is a Japanese animated movie released on Netflix on April 28th. I’m ready to be blown away by stunning animation. I don’t really know what this story is about, but I need to watch it. I simply do. Whenever May rolls around, I get spring Ghibli vibes and it’s also the start of anime/comic convention season. So, I definitely had to add it to the list of TV shows I’m watching this spring.
I usually play anime in the background while sewing my cosplay and prepping my playlist for Anime North. The vibes of May will be different this year since Anime North is in July, but watching Bubble might still give me that vibe. It might even get me back into anime.
Attack on Titan, The Final Season: Part 2
This brings me to Attack on Titan. I haven’t seen the new season yet, because I like to watch everything at once.
Shingeki no Kyojin is an amazing anime. I like the animation better than the manga (especially after reading the ending). I’m excited to see how they execute the ending in animated form because black and white manga panels can confuse things a bit.
I would start watching the episodes from episode 1 to the current season, but I don’t think I have the patience to do that. Maybe if I was binge-watching it with someone else. Who knows? I might have to do that in the future. I have this goal…or rather, a vision of the future, of when I get my own 4k UHD television to rewatch my favourite dramas and anime to get a fresh experience.
Selling Sunset
Here’s the promised American drama. This is a guilty pleasure. It’s awful but so addictive. Who knew real estate agents on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles could be so fascinating to watch? Not me.
I want to know how this whole Jason and Chrishell “entanglement” ended. Sure, it’s going to be overly dramatic, but we need some crazy trashy TV from time to time.
She and Her Perfect Husband
So, THIS drama is definitely my most anticipated drama for this Spring. I’m nervous, but I hope this drama will exceed my expectations, just like Oath of Love did in March. She & Her Perfect Husband stars Yang Mi and Xu Kai. Two super famous A-list actors. I’d say Yang Mi specializes in xianxia dramas, and her acting is superb in that genre.
On the other hand, Xu Kai really suits xianxia and modern dramas. He can do pretty much any genre, and his acting doesn’t feel out of place, so I’m not concerned about his performance at all. But, Yang Mi’s modern dramas are a hit and miss.
Update: I just found out this drama is postponed to July-September of 2022. Lame.
Overall, the synopsis of the show seems pretty interesting. I usually don’t like contract relationship dramas, but if you read the synopsis, this one sounds great.
