Free Toronto ice skating rinks during the winter are one of the perks of living in a winter country. Toronto and Ontario have many rinks you can drop into during the day or at appointed times (usually the case for community center rinks, which you can check on their website for drop-in times).
I have a goal of visiting 10 new rinks this year, as I mentioned in my Winter Bucket List. In no particular order, here are my top 10 new rinks I want to check out this year. Ideally, my goal is to visit one new rink each week.
Top Toronto Ice Skating Rinks to Visit
- The Edithvale Community Skating Rink is just outside a community center near Yonge and Finch. It’s supposed to open in January 2023.
- The Bentway: I’ve always wanted to roller skate here, but I’d definitely like to ice skate here. Checking it off my bucket list would be fun.
- Ryerson University Rink: I used to attend Ryerson University, so how cool would it be to skate here after walking by this rink every day in college when I didn’t know how to skate?
- There’s a roller skating and ice skating rink in College Park, so I have to check it out!
- Union Winter Rink: This is a new artificial rink that you must book before attending. It’s a small rink, but it might be fun.
- Square One Rink: This place seems really fun and vibey. I’ll definitely check it out in 2024.
- Gage Park Skate Trail: I definitely think this is a trail worth skating on at night.
- Skating at the Markham Civic Centre: This is definitely a doable rink, so I’ll definitely consider attending.
- Evergreen Brick Works Skating Rink: I have no idea what to expect when it comes to this rink but apparently it’s really aesthetic.
- Rideau Canal Skateway: Uh, hello. Four hours away from me is the biggest ice skating rink in the world! This is a no-brainer experience that would literally have me stoked.
- The Hangar District Rink: Right beside Wilson Station is a pop-up rink opening in February that I really want to try.
- Sports Village: There’s a new outdoor skating trail in Vaughan that I’d love to try in the future located at the Sports Village.
Honourable mentions:
I’ve been to most of these rinks before, except for the Centennial one, but I’d like to check them out again.
- Mel Lastman Square
- Nathan Philips Square
- Grandravine Rink
- Mitchel Field Rink
- Centennial Recreation Centre
- Ethennonnhawahstihnen’ Park
- SUSO Skate Rollerskating Indoor Rink
- Wonderland WinterFest Snowflake Lake Rink
Are there any Toronto ice skating rinks that you’re looking forward to checking out that are on or not on this list? Maybe in your city? Let me know in the comments below!
