Anime North was a blast this year. I truly enjoyed myself and will miss it.
I returned to Anime North as media this year, bringing along the Canon G7X to take photos and vlog. It was my first time using this camera, and I was so impressed with the quality. While filming on Friday, my friend and I were worried about the sound quality and focus. Although the sound was decent, the video quality and focus were spectacular. You can see and hear everything quite well.
On Friday, I took the UP Express train from Union Station to Weston Road for the first time. They made an error with my ticket booking, and as a result, I received unlimited rides on the train for a whole year. Amazing! The only thing is, I’m not sure when I’ll use this train next.
That evening, we attended the Moonlight Ball. It reminded me of a middle school dance, but since we only stayed for about 30 minutes, it was hard to get a true sense of how the event unfolded. We briefly attended the Japanese Pop dance before heading home.
Sunday was the highlight of the weekend—it’s when most of the action happened. I transformed into Korra for a cosplay and filmed a video about how I get ready as the character.
Filming Cosplayers
My main focus on Sunday was to shoot cosplayers with my DSLR. I definitely learned that I need a lens filter to ward off the sun’s impact on the footage, and it may be worth investing in a prime lens like the Sigma Art Lens.
Milestones for Lunch
Around noon on Sunday, my friend and I went to Milestones for lunch. She ordered tenders with sweet potato fries, and since I’m a pescatarian, I ordered salmon and rice. Itadakimasu!
Getting a Deal at the Dealer’s Room
I met up with my cousins and friends on Sunday, and we explored the dealer’s room. I managed to snag the cutest keychains at the end of the day—three for $12, which wasn’t bad. Usually, these types of keychains go for about $8 to $12 each, which is pretty steep.
Avatar: The Last Airbender Photoshoot
There were a lot of Avatar: The Last Airbender moments on Sunday. I attended a bending workshop for about 15 minutes and helped spontaneously plan an unofficial Avatar: The Last Airbender and Legend of Korra photoshoot.
All in all, it was a fun weekend. I was super tired, and I really wish I could get my cosplay music video and vlog out quicker, but with a full-time job, things tend to roll out a lot slower. Hopefully, you’ll still be interested in the content when it’s ready!
