I can’t believe I went so long without trying a Montreal-style bagel. After visiting St. Viateur Bagels, it’s hard to go back to regular bagels. These bagels are a game-changer. When we returned from Montreal, we brought back over a dozen to share with family—and we even sought out The Bagel House in Toronto for more!
Visiting St. Viateur
On the last day of our trip, we stopped by St. Viateur Bagels. The line to dine in was long, so we decided to grab bagels to-go. Next time, I plan to go earlier so we can try one of their famous bagel sandwiches and dine in without the wait.

The bagels we tried
We picked up their most popular bagel: rosemary and sea salt. The flavour was unique, and the texture was perfect. We also got cinnamon raisin bagels and a few other varieties.

One of the highlights was watching them make the bagels fresh. Seeing the dough being prepared and receiving warm bagels straight out of the oven made the experience special.

Bringing bagels home
Initially, we only bought a few bagels. But after trying the rosemary and sea salt bagel, my husband loved it so much that we went back inside to buy more.

We ended up going back twice to grab extra bagels to share with family and friends. The smell of fresh bagels filled our car as we drove back to Toronto.
Why St. Viateur Bagels stands out
What makes St. Viateur Bagels so special is their texture and taste. They’re perfectly chewy, slightly sweet, and baked to perfection. Unlike regular bagels, they have a unique flavour that’s hard to replicate.

The experience of visiting the shop, watching the bagels being made, and enjoying them warm on a cold day added to the charm. I’m so glad my cousin recommended St. Viateur Bagels before our trip—I would’ve missed out on this gem otherwise.
Final thoughts
If you’re in Montreal, St. Viateur Bagels is a must-visit. Whether you grab a bagel to-go or plan ahead to dine in, you won’t regret it. These bagels are worth every bite, and I can’t wait to go back for more.
