It’s safe to say my winter trip to Montreal was everything. The city has this cool mix of old-world beauty and new-age quirk. But one spot totally stole my heart: O-Taku Manga Lounge Montreal (2026 update: I just found out it closed down 😭).
If you’re an anime or manga fan (or even just manga-curious), this place is straight-up gold.
What is O-Taku Manga Lounge Montreal?
A little background: otaku lovingly describes someone obsessed with anime culture, and manga means Japanese comics. So, the O-Taku Manga Lounge Montreal? It’s basically a comic book café built by and for anime nerds. Think: books, snacks, trinkets, vibes.
Getting there isn’t half the fun, but it’s worth it
Tucked away at 3623 Rue Saint-Denis, Montreal, QC H2X 3L6, the lounge keeps up with the city’s unofficial theme of “we love stairs.” You’ll have to climb a winding staircase to get inside. Not super accessible, which feels like a bit of a Montreal quirk at this point.
But once you make it? You’might never want to leave.

First steps inside: total sensory overload
The moment I walked in, I was surrounded by floor-to-ceiling manga, tiny trinkets, and the cutest stationery ever. It was like stepping into the manga-filled daydream of my teenage self.
There’s a full-on café tucked into the corner with drinks, treats, and actual meals. Perfect fuel for a long reading binge.

Hangout zones for every mood
The lounge has a chill public space where you can meet up with friends or dive into your manga pile solo.
But the real magic? The private, members-only section. It’s got these adorable bunk bed reading nooks where you can snuggle up and disappear into a story. A membership works like a library card. You get access to this hidden area and an insane amount of manga—from old-school classics to brand-new releases.

In a city that doesn’t exactly cater to anime fans, this feels like a rare and precious find.
The merch corner (a.k.a. take all my yen)
They also have a tiny but mighty merch section, mostly stuffed with Studio Ghibli goodies. I walked away with the most adorable Catbus coin purse and a No-Face plush keychain that now lives on my travel backpack. I regret nothing.
The coolest bathroom I’ve ever seen
I cannot not mention the bathroom. The walls are completely covered in black and white manga panels. It was so cool I almost forgot why I was in there.

The final word: go visit
O-Taku Manga Lounge Montreal isn’t just a café. It’s a full-on experience. Whether you’re visiting Montreal and looking for something offbeat, or you live there and crave an otaku-friendly escape, this is your spot.
The city’s not exactly bursting with anime spaces (there’s no Hot Topic anymore and only one big anime con called Otakuthon), so this lounge is a true gem. If you love manga, anime, or just fun cafés with serious personality, add it to your must-visit list.
