Proposing to my bridesmaids feels like it happened ages ago, yet the memory is still fresh. I remember spending hours on TikTok, gathering bridesmaid proposal ideas, and scouring Pinterest for inspiration. After my own proposal, I knew I wanted to create a special moment for my bridesmaids, and it turned out to be one of the most enjoyable parts of wedding planning. Trust me, if you’re planning a wedding with 100+ guests, it’s no small feat, and there’s a good reason why people hire wedding planners—but we’ll dive into that in another post. Today, I’m sharing a glimpse into my bridesmaid proposal, along with tips to help you plan a successful one that truly reflects your personality and resonates with your future bridesmaids.
Why a Bridesmaid Proposal Matters
Not everyone opts for a bridal party, and that’s perfectly okay. Skipping a bridal party can simplify your wedding planning and reduce costs. There are no hard-and-fast rules, but if you do choose to have bridesmaids, asking them in a creative and meaningful way can be a delightful experience for you and a lovely surprise for them.
Planning Your Bridesmaid Proposal
Start by deciding on the items you want to include in your bridesmaid proposal. It’s helpful to use an Excel sheet, Canva, or any other tool where you’ve organized your wedding budget.
Determine the items you want to include and how much you’re willing to spend on each. I sourced my items from various places, including local stores, Amazon, Dollarama, Etsy, and even Temu. Most of my items, such as a bridesmaid gift box set and bracelets, came from Amazon.
Choose a Location
Next, choose a location that reflects your personality and is easily accessible for all your bridesmaids. I selected a bubble tea café because I love bubble tea, and I made a reservation well in advance to ensure everything was set.
Set a Date & Reminders
When scheduling the date, I asked each bridesmaid individually for their availability and chose the most popular option. Unfortunately, a few bridesmaids couldn’t attend due to illness, but I was able to meet with them one-on-one later.
Finally, use an app like Partiful to send a reminder to those attending, so they can easily add the event to their calendar. Get creative with the event name, but make sure to clearly communicate the details to your bridesmaids.
Personalizing the Proposal for Each Bridesmaid
It’s tempting to just throw a bunch of items together and call it a day, but personalization adds that special touch. One thing I regret is not purchasing a Cricut for my wedding. I didn’t realize how useful it would be for creating custom items, but now I see it would have been a game-changer. If you’re reading this, consider investing in a Cricut—it will save you money and allow you to design personalized items for your wedding.
Even without a Cricut, I personalized each box by including a photo of me with each bridesmaid, a bag of their favourite chips, some Pocky, and canvas makeup bags with their initials stitched onto them, along with a bridesmaid bracelet.
The Proposal Moment
When the big day arrived, I got to the bubble tea café, M Chá Bar, early to set up our table with the bridesmaid boxes.
I also planned to treat everyone to bubble tea while we were there.
My little cousin was the first to arrive and even surprised me with flowers—how sweet!
As more bridesmaids arrived, we all gathered around the table. I captured the moment on camera as I asked them to open their boxes and filmed their reactions. Everyone said yes!
Conclusion
This bridesmaid proposal project gave me a small taste of the planning and attention to detail that wedding planning requires. If you’re not great with stress or detail-oriented tasks, consider hiring a wedding planner or seeking help, as it can be overwhelming, especially if you have a full-time job.
But, in the end, it’s all worth it! This day was incredibly memorable for me, and I hope it was for my bridesmaids as well. It set the tone for our wedding journey, continuing the blue theme from my fiancé’s proposal. Ultimately, planning a bridesmaid proposal event is a wonderful way to set the stage for your wedding and help your bridesmaids bond, especially before the bachelorette festivities.
